The term of a new patent is 20 years from the date on which the application for the patent was filed in the United States

Question:How long is a patent granted for?

Answer:
Patents expire 20 years from the date of filing. Many other factors can affect the duration of a patent.

Question:How often is the USPTO database updated?

Answer:
The database is normally updated every Tuesday, the day patents are issued. Exceptions may occur for Federal holidays and when problems arise with data availability.

Precautionary Designation

Definition:
